Wearing a Family heirloom at your Wedding

Some of us save our Wedding dresses very carefully in a box, with the thought that someone else may want to use it, years later. Click on the link below, the Bride is wearing a dress that's 120 years old. It's trendy today to Trash the Dress, which is the opposite of carefully saving it. What are you planning on doing with your Wedding dress after the big day?

Once you've decided on a dress, drive out to The Camellia, to start planning your Flowers.

You can order a custom  photo backdrop made up in your colours.

You can also purchase Cottage /Chalk paint from The Camellia, and makeover your family heirloom. Cottage Paint comes in 50 plus colours.

A purple-themed Thunder Bay Wedding

Colours.... How does one pick their Wedding colours amidst all the choices out there? You may have a colour scheme in mind, say blush pink and soft gold, and then when you go dress shopping,,...you can't find too many dresses in your colour choice. So a colour switch happens...in this case...to shades of PURPLE or as a little 2 year old was heard to pronounce  ....pooooiiiiple. Can fake flowers look real  .... absolutely!. These flowers are all faux botanicals  ( in plain English, silk-like flowers).

Bridesmaid bouquets designed by The Camellia.

The Bride's Bouquet - of Hydrangeas, peonies, roses, statice, ranunculus, berry sprays and freesias.

Hours of labour go into designing a Bridal bouquet like the one above. Shape, colour, texture all play an important role. Here at the Camellia, our focus is on designing the most realistic looking bouquet for you. We start with the best quality botanical flowers. And the best part, you can use your bouquet in your home after your Wedding.

We do boutonierres and corsages.....no wilting or crushing and you can have them ahead of the actual Wedding  day. can't do that with fresh flowers....

Miniature deer horns worked into the boutonierres - a special request from the Bride.

Table centres - a perfect mix of rustic and soft. Birch slices and Babies Breath with a square of rough burlap.

Couple lay in coffin for Engagement shoot

What sort of Engagement shoot are you planning?

Most couples like to go back to the place where  they first met, or to their favourite hangout, or fishing spot, or the Restaurant where they had their first meal together.

They pose with cute, Pinteresty wooden sayings between them.

Flowers are usually involved.

But not too many use a casket as a backdrop.

Take a look at this couple: click on the link.

Yes, death is part of Life. What do you think?

Would you use a casket in your Engagement shoot?

For Headstones and Memorial stones, visit The Camellia. We are a rep. for Elliot Lake Monuments.

Rustic Wedding Details, The Camellia, Thunder Bay, On

If you're a person that doesn't like a lot of fluff, then going Rustic may be your choice when decorating for your Wedding. Here is a hand-tied bouquet of Floramatique Peonies (they're not real, but they look and feel like a real peony). We have added bunches of fresh lilacs for a casual feel.

These would make lovely ceremony decorations, using old maple syrup pails.

Rustic tin ceiling tiles with masses of fresh lilacs , these would look lovely hanging on a fence or a wall.

Signage is important at a Wedding - use an old ( or new) cabinet door, print up your sign on a computer, transfer onto wood by tracing over carbon paper.

We used Cottage Paint on the door in the colour Cloudy Day , then a flat varnish on top for protection. Buy Cottage Paint at our store, The Camellia or check it out on line at http://www.thecamellia.com/buy-cottage-paint--classes.html

If you are having an outdoor Wedding, consider having an area set up for your guests with our no-see-um nets - these are 40 ft wide on the bottom, and can be hung anywhere. They come in this small pouch and when you open the package, the hoop springs out to a full size hoop.

If you are using Mason Jars in your ceremony, you can use Cottage Paint ( this is the colour Veruca) to paint your jars. Fill with garden blooms. Just allow a longer dry time between coats, no 1/2 hour recoat time, on glass it would be more like 1/2 a day between coats.

For that perfect rustic touch for centrepieces, we have Black Ash wooden slices, these are a good size, and they are sanded, but not sealed. We have approximately 50 of these wood rounds for rent. Call to book a free Wedding consultation with Camille, or visit The Camellia between Wednesday and Sunday.

30, Hacquoil Rd. (10 mins. from Thunder Bay Airport). p- (807)475-3551

Vintage Cars for your Wedding

There is something magical about having a Vintage car in your Wedding celebration. This is a 1957 Pontiac, If you like Vintage, see about including a vintage car in your photo shoot.

For the best in faux botanical Bouquets, visit The Camellia, in Slate River Valley.

Many moons ago, we used this car in our Wedding ceremony. Back then, it was painted Black.

If you time your Wedding to coincide with Bloom times of various bushes, like the Apple trees, and the Lilacs, you will have the most beautiful backdrop for your photos.

If you're not sure where to rent Vintage cars, a good place to start is your local Antique Car Club.
